Eco-Trust Buy Nothing Day Activity
Observed on the 24th November, this event brings a whole new approach to consumerism. It stands against the materialistic culture that has emerged over the years and the somewhat growing desire to buy imported food.
According to Neil Bailey from the Green Action Centre website, it is "an international, informal annual event dedicated to raising awareness of overconsumption." It therefore encourages persons to participate by buying local or nothing at all on the day. For more information on Buy Nothing Day click the link below: The Eco-Trust Society has commemorated this event by creating posters and placing them along the University of Guyana catwalk to sensitize the student body and encourage them to buy locally-made products only, for the whole day. Of course, we made sure to follow in this practice ourselves.
